MORE INFORMATION

Team Managers are volunteers, typically parents of players.  A training program developed by the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) was presented for all Mentor Youth Leagues by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Public Lands of Mentor.  Our association required all managers to attend and also paid for each certification fee of $15.  Co-managers are acceptable if both parties agree to do so and one of the players is in the open draft.

Team Assignments.  Returning players, eligible to remain in the same league are frozen on their former team, unless they request in writing, not to return to their previous team.  They will then be placed back into the open draft.  New players to a league are assigned to a team by a blind draft.  Players registered after the draft (usually late April) are assigned to a team based on the teams draft selection order.  All players registered after the draft are treated as open players.   The Board reserves the right to freeze players to particular teams in extraordinary circumstances.  Players requesting a particular team must make the request in writing attached to the registration form.  The request must detail an extraordinary situation to justify assignment to a particular team.  All requests will be voted on by the Board or a committee selected by the Board.

Playing Fields.  Both city and school owned playing fields in the Mentor area are allocated to each league in the spring.  The allocation of all Mentor fields is done by the City of Mentor Recreation Department.  Thus limiting the number of teams/players we can register in our association.  We have traditionally played our games on fields at Mentor High School, Ridge Jr. High School, Fairfax School, Center Street Elementary School, and Orchard Hollow Elementary School.

Game Postponements/Rain outs.  Players will be notified of any postponements.  The Home Team Manager must call the league commissioner for a rescheduled game time which will usually be the following weekend.

League Championships. The league champion will be the team with the best regular season record.  In case of team ties, the best head to head record will determine standings.  If teams are still tied, a one game playoff will be held.   Individual trophies are awarded to the first and second place teams.

League Tournament.  Each league holds a tournament, called the Round Robin.  Although it is a single elimination tournament except for the Senior Boys and Senior Ponytails, who hold a double elimination tournament.  Each league’s tournament schedule is listed in the program book.
